5 Best VPNs for PC/Mobile for 2024

Governments, advertisers, and even your ISP are eager to obtain your data. Fortunately, an increasing number of individuals now recognize the risks associated with unrestricted corporate and governmental surveillance online. They have a legal right and desire to protect their own privacy.

While there is no quick solution to the problem of surveillance capitalism, you can reclaim a certain level of privacy by utilizing a VPN service. We have extensively tested numerous options and we managed to select the 5 best VPNs.
Here is the list of best VPNs.

  • VeePN
  • CyberGhost VPN
  • Proton VPN
  • NordVPN
  • Surfshark VPN

#1 VeePN

VeePN is a VPN service with a focus on security. VeePN includes a range of industry-standard VPN security features. These features comprise 256-bit AES encryption, ensuring all internet traffic remains unreadable, just like military-level encryption. VeePN also adheres to a strict no-logs policy, refraining from collecting any logs related to IP addresses or web browsing activities. To prevent accidental traffic leaks, VeePN incorporates a kill switch that automatically disables internet access if the VPN connection drops.

VeePN utilizes the following protocols for enhanced security: WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2/IPSec. This selection offers a combination of safety, speed, and security. WireGuard, in particular, provides one of the fastest VPN speeds available.

VeePN offers supplementary functionalities:

  • Split-tunneling allows users to choose which apps use the VPN connection while others bypass it. This enables better control over network traffic. VeePN’s split-tunneling capabilities are commendable.
  • VeePN incorporates NetGuard, an ad blocker that blocks ad trackers, eliminates unwanted advertisements, and prevents connections to suspicious websites. While VeePN’s NetGuard effectively reduces the majority of ads on websites.
  • VeePN offers a Double VPN, which routes traffic through two VPN servers. This VPN feature allows you to select the input and output server. Provided the cascade VPN setup is activated, VeePN users are virtually untraceable. This adds an extra layer of security.

  • Allows torrenting.
  • Supports 10 simultaneous connections.
  • Offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • Unblocks Netflix US.
  • Uses the modern WireGuard protocol.
  • Includes a live chat feature.
  • It has a cost-effective long-term plan.

  • The speeds are average.
  • The short-term plan is expensive.
  • It takes some time to connect.
  • There aren’t many features available.

#2 CyberGhost VPN

CyberGhost VPN provides unrivaled server options and location variety. With over 9,000 servers available, it surpasses competitors. Unlike other VPNs, CyberGhost’s servers are spread across 110 countries worldwide, catering to various needs such as gaming, streaming, and torrenting. Optimized servers are recommended to users based on their specific requirements. During testing, we found that European servers delivered outstanding speeds, while servers in Asia didn’t perform as well.

The Windows app offered by CyberGhost is user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy to adjust settings. While it may lack some advanced features found in other VPNs, it remains a solid choice for the average user. CyberGhost offers a straightforward and accessible VPN service with an extensive range of server locations. Whether you’re a frequent traveler or simply require access to diverse server options, considering CyberGhost is a must.

  • The server fleet is extensive and well-distributed.
  • Supports up to seven simultaneous connections.
  • Offers various add-ons, including antivirus.
  • The speed test scores are exceptional.
  • It has recently completed a third-party audit.

  • It can be quite costly.
  • The privacy policy might be confusing.

#3 Proton VPN

ProtonVPN has an impressive range of features, including multi-hop connections and access to the Tor network via VPN. Not only that, but it also offers a reimagined app interface for a smooth and enjoyable user experience. While the core paid VPN service is reasonably priced, it’s the free VPN subscription that truly stands out as the best we’ve come across.

Recently, the company behind ProtonVPN revamped its entire product line. Now, having an account with ProtonVPN grants you access to other Proton products, such as ProtonMail and ProtonDrive. This even includes free accounts, making it incredibly valuable.  It’s no wonder ProtonVPN has received a rare 5-star rating.

ProtonVPN is undoubtedly an excellent choice overall. Experienced users will appreciate the extensive features, while newcomers will find a straightforward experience. With a great free option and still offering excellent value despite a recent price increase, ProtonVPN remains a top contender in the VPN market.

  • The free VPN subscription is outstanding.
  • Offers numerous advanced privacy tools.
  • The customer privacy stance is strong.
  • The client is accessible and slick.
  • Speed test scores are excellent.

  • The ChromeOS implementation is awkward.

#4 NordVPN

NordVPN, similar to our top pick, is an excellent option. The PC application offers a full range of security features, including TOR, Meshnet, phishing, and ad protection. NordVPN has earned user trust by independently verifying its no-logs policy multiple times and increasing company transparency in recent years. The service conducts vendor assessments and employs diskless servers for enhanced security. The speeds are also exceptional, with an average of 73 percent of the base internet speed across all servers during our testing. Although NordVPN is slightly more expensive than the average VPN for a similar feature set, it remains an excellent choice. Opting for NordVPN as your VPN provider will not disappoint.

  • The feature set is great.
  • The speeds are excellent.
  • It has a no-logs policy.
  • The interface is attractive and intuitive.

  • It is expensive.

#5 Surfshark VPN

Surfshark entered the market as a relative newcomer but quickly gained momentum by delivering a seamless product that quickly adapted to rival offerings. While it may not possess all the features of its competitors, it does provide support for the WireGuard protocol and facilitates multi-hop connections.

With its blue color scheme and a monthly cost that exceeds the average, Surfshark VPN draws parallels to NordVPN, another VPN provider in cool hues. Notably, NordVPN recently acquired Surfshark VPN, but both companies continue to operate autonomously. Furthermore, Surfshark VPN has diversified its offerings and now includes antivirus protection as an optional add-on, which incurs extra charges.

Surfshark boasts an impressive array of features, but its true value lies in its unlimited device policy. Unlike most VPNs that restrict simultaneous connections to five devices, Surfshark lets large families or households with multiple devices secure everything under a single subscription.

  • Surfshark Nexus: Holds intriguing potential
  • Unlimited simultaneous connections
  • Boasts a vast global server presence
  • Offers multi-hop and split tunneling tools

  • High monthly price
  • Encountered some issues with the IP rotator feature during the testing
  • Privacy policy requires clarification

What We Considered When Testing VPNs?

When evaluating a VPN, you need to take into account various parameters to choose favor of the ideal product. The main criteria for us were speed, security features, number and location of servers, and price.

To keep our speed tests simple, we connect to five different global locations for a given VPN, such as North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and an additional location in Asia. We conduct these tests on three different days, at various times, running the test multiple times at each location.

Speed measurements can be done quite simply. You just need to check the basic speed without a VPN, and then connect to the VPN server and measure it again. This way we will understand what percentage of speed is lost when using a VPN and which VPN service spends less of our resources.

Price is the last option on the list, but not the least important. Under current market conditions, a fair price for an annual subscription is $60. It may be more expensive, but the price should be justified by the additional features.

We evaluated the VPN based on general parameters since we don’t know what your priority is. If you are looking for a cheap VPN, then the selection of VPNs would be very different. Cheap does not mean good, and the difference of $10-20 per year, in our opinion, is not worth the extra risk or inconvenience over such a long period of time. The VPNs listed above are the most technologically advanced, safe, fast, and reputable on the market. With them, your data and connection as a whole will be protected.
