The representative from Palestine participated and delivered a meaningful speech during the Best Diplomats conference, elaborating on the efforts and steps taken by Palestine’s authorities. In a world marked by ongoing conflicts and geopolitical complexities, Palestine has made significant developments in its efforts to empower women and work towards peace, he added. 

Palestine has shown a deep commitment to the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda, which resonates with the international community’s commitment to gender equality and peace. The representative of Palestine told the conference that their partnership with the United Nations in eliminating discrimination against women, demonstrates a collective effort to tackle deeply rooted issues that persist in societies worldwide. 

Amid escalating tensions in Palestine, women and children’s rights are being violated. However, amidst these challenges, there are dedicated individuals working on diplomacy and advocating for women’s empowerment in the region. The Palestinian delegate emphasized the critical need to increase women’s participation in different roles.  

In Palestinian society, gender dynamics are noteworthy, with women comprising half of the population. The demographic balance is slightly in favor of males, with 103 males for every 100 females. However, it’s essential to acknowledge the presence of female-headed households, which make up 10.6% of the community, demonstrating the evolving role of women in Palestinian society. There is still progress to be made, as early marriage for females remains a concern, with 20.5% experiencing this practice. 

The Palestinian population is notably young, with nearly 40% of the populace under the age of 15 and an additional 29.7% aged between 15 and 29. On a positive note, women’s literacy rates are on the rise, with a literacy rate of 95.6% for females, though there remains a slight disparity with the male literacy rate at 98.6%. These statistics underline the importance of continued efforts to address issues like early marriage and promote gender equality while recognizing the increasing educational achievements of Palestinian women.

In his concluding statement, the representative’s call for international support is a plea to the global community to join hands and contribute to the pursuit of peace in Palestine.
