Best Diplomats United Nations Immersion Programme – November 2025
We are proud to present the UNITAR-Best Diplomats Immersion Program that will be held this year from November 17 to 21 in Geneva, Switzerland, recognized for its pivotal role in shaping participants' global perspectives.
Participants in the five-day immersive program will:
- Visit key international organizations and leading firms via guided field visits.
- Receive insider knowledge of institutions headquartered in Geneva through information sessions.
- Participate in specialized lectures on diplomacy, UN employment possibilities, and multilateralism.
- Work on tangible skills such as negotiation, leadership, and diplomatic communication through hands-on activities.
- Network with other diplomats, personnel from the UN, and emerging leaders from around the world dedicated to social change.
The UNITAR – Best Diplomats United Nations Immersion Programme is a five-day thoughtfully designed immersive learning program that directly exposes participants to the practice of international diplomacy. It incorporates guided tours, sessions by experts in relevant fields, and practical learning activities which provide a clear glimpse into the day-to-day operations of the United Nations and other relevant organizations.
Its primary objective focuses on enhancing participants’ knowledge of international issues while simultaneously equipping them with negotiation, leadership, and multilateral skills. In resonance with UNITAR’s mission, it supports the development of confidence and competence in global diplomacy and international relations.
The programme instills a greater understanding of the fundamental principles enshrined in the UN Charter, paying special attention to the importance of multilateralism as a technique for solving global challenges. It also acts as an opportunity for those considering future careers at the United Nations or any of its affiliated institutions.
The UNITAR – Best Diplomats United Nations Immersion Programme provides a broad overview of the UN system and international diplomacy. Each participant will gain a deeper understanding of the world affairs while acquiring the essential diplomatic skills. By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Understand the structure, roles, and functions of the United Nations and its specialized branches
- Comprehend Geneva’s role as a central hub for global diplomacy and international cooperation
- Apply various useful techniques in negotiation, public speaking, and diplomatic protocol
- Explore career pathways within the UN and other international organizations
- Reflect and act upon the core values and principles outlined in the UN Charter
In these five days, participants will benefit from a well-rounded blend of expert lectures, followed by interactive workshops, guided institutional visits, career development sessions, and cultural exposure.
Expert Lectures
Drawing from UNITAR’s strong network in Geneva, the programme features a series of 1–2 hour sessions led by high-level UN personnel and policy experts. In institutions such as:
- The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG)
- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
- The World Trade Organization (WTO)
Training Workshops
Led by experienced diplomats and other professionals, these interactive workshops will develop practical skills in areas such as:
- Leadership and Negotiation
- Public Speaking and Persuasive Communication
- Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- UN Protocol and Resolution Writing
- Conference Diplomacy
- Trade, Commerce, and Global Innovation
Guided Institutional Tours
Participants will be able to explore Geneva’s most prominent international sites including:
- The Palace of Nations (UNOG)
- Palais Wilson – Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Museum
- The WTO Headquarters
- The Graduate Institute (IHEID) and NGO spaces within the House of Peace
Career Development Sessions
To support long-term professional goals, participants will take part in career development sessions, including:
- UN system internships and entry-level opportunities
- CV, cover letter, and Inspira profile reviews
- Interview techniques for international organizations
- Optimizing LinkedIn and personal branding for a global career
Cultural Activities
Apart from all the intensive trainings, participants will experience Swiss culture through well-designed fun activities such as:
- City tours of Geneva’s diplomatic district
- Chocolate tasting tours in the historic Old Town
- Traditional Swiss dinner with live folk music
This programme is built on an experiential learning approach that emphasizes hands-on experience and real-world applications to enhance the understanding of the strategic structure and proceedings of the international bodies along with different cultural values.
The programme is delivered by a team of distinguished experts, selected by UNITAR, for their expertise, including academics, former diplomats, UN officials, and specialists in global governance.
After successfully completion of the programme participants will be furnished with a certificate of completion, jointly issued by UNITAR and Best Diplomats. For that, active participation and full attendance are required. A post-programme feedback form will also be distributed to all so we can ensure the continuous enhancement of future editions.
